Paintless Dent Repair is a method requiring vast amounts of skill and technical expertise. Contrary to common sense, you can't pop a dent out, the metal stores the energy of the dent in the shape of the dent, the technician has to remove the energy the way it went in to restore the metal. Some technicians and all body shops correct the problem by pushing more energy into the dent forcing the metal to look better, but this will be visible or will require bondo and paint.

Paint Scratch Repair
Every car has scratches in the paint, or worse, gouges. There are several different types of paint scratches, so lets identify them so we can fix them right.
The first one isn't really a scratch, it's paint transfer. You run your car into something painted, or vice versa and some of the other color gets left behind. You can wipe it off with lacquer thinner being careful not to get it on any plastic or you can polish it off with rubbing compound or we can come out and take care of it for $65.
The next kind of car paint scratch is a surface scratch, it dulls the clear coat without digging in. This is the kind of scratch Billy Mays puts in the car paint with the edge of a quarter, it looks awful and practically wipes off with rubbing compound or disappears with a wax. To find out if it will polish off, scratch against it with your fingernail. If you can't feel it, this scratch will polish right out. Buy the $20 compound or call us and we'll do it professionally for $65.
If you can feel it with your fingernail, but it hasn't gone through the color coat, there are a couple of options, and from here you should definitely use a professional. First it's polished, usually half of it will go away, the beginning and the end of the scratch leaving just the deeper part in the middle. Further buffing will polish the inside of the scratch and a shiny car paint scratch is better than a dull one, it's still there but harder to see. If it's not too deep the next step is to wetsand the scratch away. This is dangerous because there is usually only a couple of mils of clear coat on a car and a light wetsand and polish will quickly take a mil off. Sanding or polishing through the clear coat is a catastrophe and very expensive to fix (detail shops hire us a lot when they do this accidently). These steps are included with our $65 car paint scratch repair service.
The next kind of car paint scratch is the gouge through the clear and into or through the color. This is never going to repair 100% without sanding, sealing, priming, painting with a good blend then color sanding and buffing. This runs $200 to $350 per panel depending on the color. Included with the $65 car paint scratch repair service is all of the before mentioned procedures plus additionally painting the gouged portion with a paint pen or a squeegee. This makes the scratch disappear 80% with solid colors and only 50-65% with metallics and pearlescent colors.
Paint Chip or Rock Chip Repair
This is the discipline that started our whole business. Counterintuitively, when a collector is purchasing a vehicle they prefer to see rock chips, repaired or not. A vehicle with any miles on it without rock chips suggests a repaint or possibly collision repair. Shops are getting better and better at hiding repaints by completely disassembling the vehicle and reshooting the color like when it was made at the factory. Paint materials have improved tremendously over the years to also hide repaints or collision repair. An unmolested vehicle should show some wear and tear, but not damage. Rock chips, or paint chips are a form of wear and tear.
The first step is to get the paint. Most factory touch up paint is a single stage applied with a brush, it yields the globby looking repair we're all familiar with, and sometimes the paint doesn't match very well. We prefer to use Standox because of it it's high solids (thickness) and it's paint documentation (perfect factory color match). It fills the chip and levels off without a globby appearance. To finish the repair we squeegee over the chip and polish or use a paint pen to fill in the chip. If you're doing this repair yourself you can facilitate a better do it yourself job by trimming the brush supplied with the touch up paint till it's as thin as a liner brush (think eyeliner like make-up). Get a drop of paint on the tip and use the paint to move the paint, never use the brush or let the brush get in the chip, if you make a mistake, wipe it off quickly with some turpenoid. If you use thinner, be careful not to let it touch any plastic.
Our average paint chip or rock chip repair runs $65 and we come to your home or work.
Bumper Repair
Most Auto Body Shops and insurance companies like to replace bumper covers when they're damaged. Our feeling is that plastic repairs easily if you use the proper materials and our world is a better place without all those extra plastic bumper covers in our landfills. Even broken, cracked, torn or bumpers with holes in them can be fixed like new either through plastic welding or epoxy repair materials. The trick is to not treat the bumper like metal and use bondo filling materials which are fragile and will just crack off the next time the bumper cover is touched. A good plastic bumper with a good paint job on it should withstand a parallel parking scuffle without getting destroyed.
We can repair all types of damage to your plastic bumper cover and then refinish it with Standox paint giving a perfect color match and a lifetime warranty on repair, materials and workmanship. And it starts at just $185 for a scuffed bumper corner, not $600 like a typical auto body shop.
