Headlamps are pressure molded from plastic. The UV protection is typically pasty colored, to make it see through is very expensive so only the surface receives a micro thin layer of UV protection. This UV protection is easily rubbed off by sand, sun, dirt, washing and other abuse your car suffers. The good news is that your headlamps can be restored to like new condition. You can even do it yourself, but be careful not to do more damage. First mask off the paint surrounding the headlamp to protect it. Select a grit of sandpaper that fits the application, for foggy looking damage 1000 grit is great, if there are pits or rock chip damage you might start with 600 grit or even something more aggressive. Wetsand with finer and finer grits till you get to 2000. Most technicians at this point would polish the headlamp just like it was paint. The problem there is that the headlamp isn't protected from the sun and will fog up again quickly. We see this problem with aftermarket headlamps made in Taiwan that seem to come with no UV protection. We apply a hard, see through, epoxy to protect the headlamp from further damage and offer a lifetime limited warranty on our work.
